Scenic City Adventures
Добавлен 2 янв 2017
Adventure is in our DNA. From the earliest written history humans have sought out new lands, new challenges and have been driven by the need to explore. The term overlanding, “to travel by land”, is still a new verb, but the concept has been around for all of humanity. From the earliest tradesmen to the gold rush people seek adventure. The modern day overlanding vehicle may have come a long way from the horse and buggy, but the concept is still the same; bring what you need, leave no trace, and embrace the adventure.
Scenic City Overland is our way of bringing you on our adventure. The team consists of Alex, Sarah, Josh, and Becky. We are a group of friends from Chattanooga Tennessee, the scenic city, but you’ll often find our adventures branching out far beyond our beautiful valley. Not every adventure will be strictly overlanding. We’ll have gear write-ups, overlanding trips, and whatever experiences we think you will enjoy.
We hope you enjoy the journey!

Within the Talladega National Forest is set of trails referred to as the Alabama Rubicon. It's not particularly difficult, but it seems to be the place everyone knows about, everyone goes, and everyone talks about on Facebook. Nate, Dad, and Myself decided to take a last minute trip to Alabama to take on this famous trail. Of course, if you look back in our video catalog, you may find it's not ...

Awesome video! I've been recently making plans to visit Cheaha, 600-1, and maybe even tackling the Georgia Traverse. I was gifted an 07 Xterra and currently working on making it more offroad/ overland worthy. It's a process but looking forward to venture out and explore new places with my wife and our dog Carter. Thank you for sharing your passion 🤙🏽!
Congratulations! The Xterra is an awesome platform and will treat you well. You’ll enjoy both the traverse and the trails around Cheaha.
TOUGH LOVE INCOMING! I HAVE LIVED IN MONTANA MOST OF MY LIFE...I GREW UP IN ALASKA 1970 TO 1991 WHEN I MOVED TO THE LAST GREAT PLACE! YOU SAID : "ONE BIG EPIC ADVENTURE"...YET THIS VIDEO IS ONLY 7 MINUTES MOSTLY OF YOU DRIVING...& DRONE SHOTS WHILE YOU READ OUT OF A TRAVEL GUIDE OF SOME SORT... SPEND 10 DAYS IN THE BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS! SPEND 10 DAYS IN THE CABINET WILDERNESS! EXPLORE FORT PECK FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST! YOU WOULD NOT KNOW AN EPIC ADVENTURE IF IT RAN OVER YOUR CONVOY & DESTROYED IT WHILE YOU WERE TAKING DRONE SHOTS ON THE SIDE OF A PAVED HIGHWAY! SHORT OF THE BEAUTY OF OUR COUNTRY'S NATIONAL PARKS...THEY ARE SHITE! THE ONLY ADVENTURES FOUND ARE TRAFFIC JAMS AND IDIOTS WITH CAMERAS TAKING SELFIES & "MAKING CONTENT"...THEY ARE TOURIST TRAPS! AND "TRUE ADVENTURERS" AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE! YOU WANT FOLLOWERS??? FILM A REAL ADVENTURE! YOU NEED TO GET DIRTY! GET PRIMAL! TAKE RISKS! SEEK THE ADVENTURE MAN! AND NEVER FORGET TO... LOVE YOUR JOURNEY!
Yep, you aren’t wrong. Typically our trips are solo, giving me more time to stop and film but this trip we had my grandfather and father with us. I had to try and balance filming and not inconveniencing family with constant stops. I think you’ll find the Utah trips more to your liking with more back country exploration and more filming. Without family tagging along our trips average 1500 miles of offroad in a 6000 mile trip, but since it was the first time taking the family, I didn’t want to push their comfort level with the harder trails, and we had to complete change our plans with the smoke and fires. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. ✌🏻
Hey dude one question how did u remove the lower lip in the bumper?
Yep! I believe he did
I just want to remove mine too thanks!
Like the video. What’s the name of that last song?
Do you need to upgrade or change the suspension on a 2021 Tundra in order to install a Super Pacific ?
Nope! The Super pacific only weighs around 400 pounds. Not enough for the tundra to really notice. Now if you start adding in a lot of additional accessories and water tanks and things you may start bottoming out. Just depends on your build out.
Who makes that mount that you are using for the WaterPort?
It’s just a modified version of the OEM mount.
Awesome build man! Just curious, did you compare cost and weight of using extruded aluminum? Im looking to do a similar project, thanks!
Thank you! We built a full setup for my dad’s camper in extruded aluminum and it’s definitely a great way to do it. We found it was a little pricey by the time you get the connectors and mounts and such, and it’s definitely heavier than using the PVC Foam board. On his f250, it really didn’t matter, on my truck it would have been noticeable. The aluminum is easier to work with, and there are tons of great addons and tutorials to working with it. It’s not a bad choice by any means, it’s just not what I was looking for.
@@ScenicCityAdventuresawesome! Thank you for the reply!
Wow! you made it across a flat Gravel Road without getting stuck.... impressive. I did that once with a golf cart, but I didn't have that cool ass hidden trunk for my beer, I had to put it in coasters like a poor.
Great video. Quick question, can you take this through a car wash?
You know, I’ve never tried. I usually just use a manual wash. I’m around 7 feet as it sits which is too tall for most.
Have you broken the awing yet?
Nope! We used it at the beach all weekend in 25+ mph winds with no issues. We anchored everything down with sand filled buckets.
Super great video, still the most informative video out there. The location looks sick too. Do they allow camping there?
Thanks! And sadly no you can’t camp there. I wish!
Did you mount this awning using the brackets bolted to the T-Slots of the tent?
Yep! I used three brackets from Super Pacific. It’s heavy, so I went with three just in case.
Great to see the honda capability and difficulty. But please kill the background music. I rather hear the people and scrapes.
Hey, just ran across your channel. I just bought a used GFC for my new Nissan Frontier. Trying to figure out the rear buildout. My channel is rambling4x4adventures. Are you still overlanding, saw that you haven’t posting in a year? I’m up in Nashville.
So does recovery gear go in the cab? I think I remember you saying you were figuring out how to mount them to the Super Pacific
I have the same awning and love it but do get aggravated a little bit with the droop as well. May I ask what you used as spacers? After watching your video, I'm considering doing the same modification.
Just lift Ridgeline with 3 inch traxxda kit ad skid plate and you're good to go.
My only thought after watching this is the awning fabric looks pretty lightweight and allows light to come through? What has been your experience in terms of the toughness and durability of that fabric? Also i’m on the West Coast and it gets pretty hot in the desert sun, so thicker insulated fabric is optimal.
Looks fantastic. I've been searching for a proper material to build out my bed boxes. Luckily Piedmont has PVC foamboard in stock in San Diego. Two questions: Do you think you could have used 1/2" instead of 3/4"? Do you feel it was necessary to cover the foamboard with the white sheeting? Looking forward to starting my project!
Where at in Tennessee was that cement waterfall thing you were at? I would love to visit that
Glad you enjoyed my back yard on mt cheaha.
i'm shopping-researching a batwing with walls. how have those zippers held up over time?
Why not just buy the Honda Minivan? Oh, and who's the nozzle running around with a helmet on?
@seniccityadventures can I get more info on the that water tank system thanks
love this video dude makes me want to bring ppl smiles as you have!
Whatever you do, when you visit, please don't call it "road going to the sun" like this guy. It is "going to the sun road". you wouldn't call Abbey Road, Road Abbey or 35th St, Street 35. Also, the Author should have clarified that the first portion of their drive in the park (after Hungry Horse Reservoir) was not on GTTSR as GTTSR is entirely paved, not dirt/gravel.
Nice video! I've camped at the Frozen Lake Rec site.. now I know what the American side looks like now lol.
I bought this awning a year ago, now I been wanting to add the walls but I'm not convinced, no windows and the look it has I don't like it from this brand, I wonder if another brand will fit like LEADWIN, looks much better and has windows, comes in one piece and the price is more affordable
Hi bro just wondering how do you remove the lower lip thanks!
DOSE NATE HAVE A RUclips CHANNEL?
I seriously thought about the SP X1 but I just can't justify the price. at nearly 19k CAD I was able to buy a new GFC V2 AND an 07 27ft Cherokee holiday trailer that's renovated for 20k lol. Now I have my topper for when I go out by myself and the trailer for when I take the family. There's ALOT and I mean ALOT to like about the X1, but they've priced themselves into a corner of the market where this conversation will continue to be brought up over and over again. This just plays right into GFC's favor since their purpose was to build a somewhat affordable topper to get you out camping.. mission accomplished. I love the blue of the X1 though lol.
From watching this video, it should be fairly obvious that you get what you pay for. While you're correct from a pure pricing structure, the overall value is debatable and quality of the SP over the GFC identifies it as being a better overall choice. And cost is relative - we're also looking at the Rossmonster Lagom.
Great review, Thk u
Worse part about Cherokee camping is if you are 6ft or taller. Unless you have the 2 door seat that fold forward in your 4 door. But you can disable your rear hatch lights and use a SUV hatch tent to give more room
Nice camper but it is also $5k more than the GFC. Not sure I see 5k more worth of differences.
Can the tent go up with the awning out?
Awesome. What's the actual size of that tire bro? I need those.
If I get a Honda ridgeline, which I'm planning on getting to 2024 version, I'm going to immediately get a 2 inch lift. But for what I've been hearing, they will have a dedicated off road version, So I'm still waiting. You have to be crazy to try to rock crawl with a stock ridgeline.
Trail sport variant of the new Ridgeline should be nice
I love this! But I think it's too big for my Kia Soul :) I want something like it tho.
I feel like I’m listening to the top gun beach volleyball scene
Nice setup. How many mounting brackets did you use to mount onto your GFC? How is it holding up? Still happy with the awning?
Amazing. What was the cost of the awning and the new walls
Is the ridgeline your daily driver?
It was Nate’s, but he has a F150 now.
Too bad no windows on the walls like others I've seen (Bush Co).
Actually, the new version of the walls, do you have windows with screens!
If that's red then I'm colour blind
😂 ya, the whole area is called the red desert, but only parts are colored red. 🤷🏻♂️
Could a stock nissan frontier pro4x make it through this trail?
It’s been a year since I’ve been up there, but as long as you pick your lines on the 2 washouts, the rest will be pretty easy for you.
thanks!@@ScenicCityAdventures
what size is the awning
Go with Oru Designs Camper. It’s half the price
😅yeah!!!!!!! And I am so happy for you'll
Since the video took 21 minutes, including segments that were left out, and some in fast motion, I will assume it takes somewhere around 20 minutes to completely set up and 20 minutes to take down and stow completely.
When I see a Nate in the group chat for the next overland trip, I know to avoid
